Jefferson Lines Partners in the Fight Against Human Trafficking

MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 13, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- As a leader in the motorcoach industry, Jefferson Lines has partnered with Busing on the Lookout (BOTL) to fight human trafficking. Jefferson has used training and education materials from Busing on the Lookout (BOTL) to train all employees. This program equips bus drivers and terminal employees with information on how to identify and report signs of human trafficking.Jefferson Lines Partners in the Fight Against Human Trafficking

"I'd like to commend Jefferson Lines for training all of their employees using the BOTL materials," says Annie Sovcik, BOTL Director. "Through their leadership and commitment to joining the fight against human trafficking, they've taken an important step toward making it more difficult for traffickers to operate in this country."

Equipped with the BOTL training, Jefferson will have direct impact within 14 states, and over 180 communities. Of these, Jefferson has already played a crucial role in rescuing two victims of human trafficking.

Jefferson Lines’ President and CEO, Steve Woelfel, states, “Human trafficking affects over 40 million people and occurs all around us. By educating our employees on how to identify the signs of human trafficking and how to report it effectively, we have an opportunity to truly make a difference in the communities that we serve.”

Busing on the Lookout (BOTL) recognizes that members of the bus industry are in a critical position to provide an extra set of eyes and ears for law enforcement in recovering victims and arresting traffickers. In the past 10 years, the National Human Trafficking Hotline has received 1,587 calls from Minnesota, involving over 400 victims.

If you suspect that someone is a victim of human trafficking, call the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 888-373-7888 or text the BeFree Text Line at 233733 to report a tip or access victim services. Calls to the hotline are anonymous, confidential, and toll free. The Hotline is staffed 24/7 with experts who are there to take your call and help you discern if you are indeed interacting with a potential victim.
