Smith promoted to account executive

R&J Strategic Communications, an integrated marketing and public relations agency, has promoted Rebecca Smith to account executive. Smith plays an integral role in the agency’s growing healthcare and behavioral health teams. Since joining R&J Strategic Communications in March 2017 as an assistant account executive, Smith has managed day-to-day operations for her clients, which range from the largest healthcare delivery system in New Jersey to community-based addiction treatment centers. Human Trafficking Awareness Month

East Windsor Mayor Janice S. Mironov, joined by Womanspace Executive Director Patricia Hart and Womanspace Board Member/retired East Windsor Chief of Police Bill Spain, issued a Mayoral Proclamation recognizing January as Human Trafficking Awareness Month and further made a special presentation recognizing this issue. Mironov also presented Womanspace with a poster for its 40th anniversary that featured a photo she took of a billboard near the border of Myanmar and Thailand, in Southeast Asia, that was an anti-human trafficking public service announcement. East Brunswick Senior Meals is in need of volunteers to deliver meals to homebound township senior residents. 50 new jobs in Union County

The Union County Freeholder Board announced Worldwide Flight Service is looking to hire county residents for 50 full-time positions through the Union County Workforce Innovation Business Center. Worldwide Flight Services is an aviation company that provides cargo handling, ground handling and technical services in more than 198 major airport locations and is looking to hire ramp and ticket agents for its Newark Airport location. Linden receives recreation grant

Linden Mayor Derek Armstead announced that the city received the Recreational Opportunities for Individuals with Disabilities (ROID) grant worth $19,120 from the N.J. Department of Community Affairs. This is the second year Linden has been awarded the grant, which is used to help include individuals with disabilities into recreational activities. Linden’s special-needs children are able to participate in the bowling and summer day camp recreation programs as a result of the ROID grant. Grant for domestic violence nonprofits

Allstate agency owners from across New Jersey recently joined with others from across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic to secure a $253,000 Allstate Foundation Helping Hands grant to benefit 15 domestic violence nonprofits in nine states and the District of Columbia, including the New Jersey Coalition to End Domestic Violence (NJCEDV). The National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV), a network of state domestic violence coalitions, accepted the grant and distributed the funding to each of the local domestic violence nonprofits. The New Jersey Coalition to End Domestic Violence will receive $48,000 and will use the grant to support its mission to provide services to help end domestic violence and financial abuse throughout the state. New shared-time programs 

Beginning in the 2018-19 school year, Hunterdon County Polytech High School will offer three new shared-time programs: Fitness Specialist, Computer Science and Heavy Equipment Operators (HEOP). Each helps prepare students for fields with growing job prospects, and each offers an opportunity to earn college credits or industry certification. The Fitness Specialist program allows students to train for employment as a personal fitness trainer in one year. Interested students for any Polytech programs, including the new ones, should enroll by Thursday, March 1, for the 2018-19 school year. Linden middle school teacher's ‘magic’

Kimberly Leight, a science teacher at Soehl Middle School in Linden, has earned the distinction of being named one of the Teachers Who Make Magic, an honor awarded by the radio station Magic 98.3 and the New Jersey Education Association. Up to 24 outstanding teachers are chosen to receive the award. Union County Sheriff Peter Corvelli holds the Bible as Superior Court Judge Karen Cassidy swears in Dennis Burke as the newest undersheriff in the Union County Sheriff’s Office during a ceremony at the Union County Courthouse in Elizabeth. Burke, a 23-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office, will continue his assignment as the commander of the Field Services Division, which includes the Criminal Investigations Unit, Family Violence Unit, Community Policing Unit, Crime Scene Unit, K9 Search and Rescue Unit and the Bureau of Criminal Identification.
