BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. - A Butte College police officer was in Superior Court on Friday over charges of possession and distribution of child pornography and the possession of an illegal assault rifle.
According to Butte County District Attorney Michael Ramsey, 48-year-old Allen Lamont Charles was arrested after a citizen provided a cyber tip to law enforcement through the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) data system provided by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).
The complaint was received by the Butte County Sheriff’s Office who conducted an investigation which led to the arrest of Charles and his appearance in court to answer for the charges.
According to D.A. Michael Ramsey, “Charles was not only in possession of child pornography images and videos but had distributed some of them to two separate individuals.”
Ramsey said the account used to send the images were accessed from multiple locations, “including Charles’s home and an IP address assigned to the Butte College campus where he worked."
Charles was arrested in August of 2024 without incident, said Ramsey. “During the arrest, additional electronics were seized from Charles’s person, which were later forensically examined and found to have additional child pornography images on them.”
According to Ramsey, when a search warrant was executed at Charles’s home an illegal assault rifle was discovered.
Charles remains out on bail and will appear in court again on May 14, 2025 at 8:30 a.m. to set a date for his trial by jury.
