High school roundup for April 4, 2025: North Catholic ace throws 6-inning no-hitter with 15 Ks

Kennedy Brown threw a six-inning no-hitter with 15 strikeouts to lead North Catholic to an 11-0 win over Western Beaver (1-5, 0-1) in Section 3-4A softball Friday.

Natalia Rushak went 3 for 4 with a double, home run and four RBIs and Samantha Foley hit two doubles for North Catholic (5-1, 2-1).

Armstrong 15, Kiski Area 2 – Evalyn Crissman went 3 for 3 with a double, home run and five RBIs and Isabel Prazenica and Marlee Smith doubled for Armstrong (6-2, 2-1) in a Section 2-5A win. Alyssa Perona hit a home run and Kyla Hutcherson doubled for Kiski Area (1-5, 1-2).

Canon-McMillan 12, Butler 1 – Winning pitcher Brooke Bumer struck out 14 and allowed three hits for Canon-McMillan (4-4, 2-3) in a Section 1-6A win. Lily Vicari hit a home run and Marissa Sklencar hit a double for Butler (1-7, 1-4). Kadence Merigo and Skylah Steban doubled for the Big Macs.

Charleroi 5, Steel Valley 3 – Rya Dipietrantonio went 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs to lead Charleroi (3-4, 1-0) to a Section 3-3A win. Ana Weher hit a home run and Keyauna Thompson doubled for Steel Valley (2-3, 0-1).

Derry 9, Indiana 5 – Kali Henigin hit a grand slam and Callie Krause, Paris Clayton and Sophia Doherty also homered for Derry (4-1, 2-0) in a Section 1-4A win. Haylee Myers hit two doubles for the Trojans. Kylee Cass hit a home run and Samantha Martin doubled for Indiana (1-7, 0-2).

Frazier 15, California 0 – Addison Hiles threw a four-inning no-hitter and struck out six for Frazier (4-1, 1-0) in a Section 4-2A win over California (2-3, 0-1). Emme Travalena had a double, home run and three RBIs and Zoey Zurenski hit a home run for the Commodores.

Gateway 16, Penn Hills 1 – Alayna Dawson had a triple and two RBIs and Rylee Beavin doubled for Gateway (3-2) in a nonsection win. Addison Helsel singled and drove in a run for Penn Hills (2-6).

Highlands 5, Freeport 2 – Madison Gorney struck out eight and allowed two runs on four hits for Highlands (4-2, 2-0) in a Section 1-4A win. Gorney had a double and two RBIs. Kelly Schmidt went 2 for 3 for Freeport (3-4, 0-2).

Knoch 16, Valley 0 – Lizzie Danik hit a two-run homer and Lindsay Wise went 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs for Knoch (5-1, 2-0) in a Section 1-4A win over Valley (0-6, 0-2).

Mohawk 16, Beaver Falls 0 – Winning pitcher Reagan Magno threw a three inning no-hitter and struck out eight to lead Mohawk (4-2, 1-0) past Beaver Falls (0-1, 0-1) in a Section 2-3A win. Mylie Pistorius went 2 for 3 with a double, home run and four RBIs and Gianna Pezzuolo drove in three runs for the Warriors.

Neshannock 15, Freedom 0; Neshannock 15, Freedom 0 – Neshannock (6-0, 3-0) swept a Section 1-2A doubleheader from Freedom (0-6, 0-3). In the first game, Gianna Paglia and Anna Measel combined to throw a three-inning perfect game. Paglia struck out four in two innings. Measel struck out three in one inning. Gabby Quinn went 2 for 2 with a triple, home run and five RBIs for the Lancers. In the second game, Paglia threw a three-inning perfect game with seven strikeouts. Gabriella Antuono doubled and drove in two runs and Quinn had a triple and an RBI.

New Brighton 16, Aliquippa 1 – Alizae Mosconi and Elise Gerrich had a double and two RBIs apiece for New Brighton (2-2, 1-0) in a Section 1-2A win. Faith Riley went 2 for 2 with an RBI for Aliquippa (0-2, 0-2).

North Hills 9, Mars 4 – Emma Gruener drove in five runs and Addyson Wrigley hit a double to lead North Hills (7-1, 2-0) to a Section 1-5A win. Callie Simoni hit two doubles for Mars (2-7, 1-2).

Northgate 17, Shady Side Academy 7 – Gracie Auth hit a home run and Bayleigh Hooper hit two doubles to lead Northgate (6-1, 1-0) to a Section 2-2A win. Leah Brancolini drove in two runs for Shady Side Academy (0-2, 0-1).

Seneca Valley 2, Mt. Lebanon 0 – Abby Kalkowski and Lexie Hames combined to throw a three-hitter for Seneca Valley (6-0, 4-0) in a Section 1-6A win. Kalkowski struck out seven and allowed two hits in four innings. Hames struck out eight and allowed one hit in three innings. Dani McClinchie hit a double for Mt. Lebanon (4-4, 2-3). Lauren Folino doubled and drove in two runs for the Raiders.

Sewickley Academy 17, Rochester 2 – Marie Bigi went 4 for 4 with a double, triple and four RBIs, Gabby Edmunds hit two doubles and drove in four runs to lead Sewickley Academy (4-0, 1-0) to a Section 1-A win. Gemini Williams and Bella Zupcic hit a double apiece for Rochester (1-5, 0-1). Sanaa Grant hit a triple and Vanshika Jeevan drove in three runs for the Panthers.

Shaler 14, Plum 1 – Winning pitcher Bria Bosiijevac struck out 11 and allowed only one hit in six innings for Shaler (4-2, 2-0) in a Section 1-5A win over Plum (6-2, 2-1). Emily Spears had a double, home run and four RBIs, Hayley Machajewski and Jayla Antomachi also homered and Abby Aleski drove in five runs for the Titans.

Shenango 11, Riverside 3 – Briana Aluisa went 3 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs and Emma Herb and Zoe Offie had a double and two RBIs apiece to lead Shenango (3-3, 2-0) to a Section 1-2A win. Danny Rosenberger hit a double and Jocilene Cummings drove in two runs for Riverside (1-4, 1-1).

South Park 15, East Allegheny 0 – Sydney Sekely and Grace Kempton combined to throw a three-inning no-hitter for South Park (7-0, 1-0) in a Section 3-3A win over East Allegheny (0-3, 0-1). Sekely struck out five in two innings . Kempton struck out two in one inning and went 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs. Kaitlyn Polk doubled and Emma Hays drove in two runs for the Eagles.

Thomas Jefferson 8, Trinity 1 – Aubrey Shaffer struck out nine and allowed three hits for Thomas Jefferson (4-2, 2-1) in a Section 4-5A win. Nina Christy hit a home run for Trinity (3-5, 1-1). Allie Chalovich hit a double and home run and Hannah Alonso drove in two runs for the Jaguars.

Union 20, Bishop Canevin 0 – Mia Preuhs and Korynne Shannon homered and Irelyn Fisher tripled to lead Union (4-1, 1-0) to a Section 1-A win. Ava Washington and Lia Pilarski hit a single apiece for Bishop Canevin (1-3, 0-1). Olivia Williams hit a double and Addie Nogay drove in three runs for the Scotties.

West Mifflin 6, Uniontown 2 – Adilee Salopek hit a double and Aubrey Jaskulski and Abby Jakubovic hit two singles apiece for West Mifflin (4-3, 2-0) in a Section 2-4A win. Graci Rodeheaver went 2 for 3 for Uniontown (2-4, 0-2).

Baseball

Beaver 11, New Castle 2 – Derek Hughes went 3 for 3 with three doubles and two RBIs to lead Beaver (7-1) to a nonsection win. Ronald Sebek went 2 for 2 with a double and two RBIs and Tanner Wilson also had two hits and drove in a pair for the Bobcats. Dominic Miller and Alex Rodgers each singled and knocked in a run for New Castle (1-6).

Freeport 7, Karns City 1 – Owen Westendorf threw a complete game, allowing one run on four hits with six strikeouts, to lead Freeport (3-3) to a nonsection win. Kason Barker singled, tripled and drove in two runs and CJ Walker also had two RBIs for the Yellowjackets. Brock Dittman had two hits for Karns City.

Highlands 6, West Shamokin 5 – With the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, Carson McGraw was hit by a pitch and Troy Bielak reached on an error to give Highlands (4-2) a nonsection comeback win. Kristian Kocon struck out six in 2⅔ innings to earn the win. Braden Talmedge singled, doubled and drove in a pair for West Shamokin.

Mohawk 4, Laurel 3 – Kam O’Lare doubled and drove in a run, Vinny Pezzuolo tripled and Jackson Peters drove in the winning run in the third inning to help Mohawk (2-2) to a nonsection victory. Kolton Carlson went 3 for 3 with a double and three RBIs for Laurel (3-4). Cash Stratton picked up the win and Adam Deal earned the save for the Warriors.

North Catholic 3, Carrick 0 – Jack Monaco and Landon Eifler combined on a one-hit shutout in a nonsection win for North Catholic (4-1). Monaco threw four no-hit innings with six strikeouts. Eifler gave up one hit and struck out five in three innings. Luca Guzowski drove in a pair of runs for the Trojans. Blake Andrews had a base hit for Carrick (3-2).

Riverside 9, Ellwood City 5 – Winning pitcher Zack Hare hit two home runs and struck out 11 in five innings to lead Riverside (5-1, 1-1) to a Section 1-3A win. John Bowser doubled and drove in a run and Dylan Meyer had a triple and two RBIs for the Panthers. Gus Biondi had two hits and two RBIs for Ellwood City (5-3, 1-1).

Riverview 10, Shady Side Academy 3 – Eli DeVita went 3 for 4 with two triples and four RBIs and Tyler Aftanas singled, tripled and knocked in three runs to lead Riverview (6-1) to a nonsection win. Johnny Bertucci had two hits and an RBI and Ian Stempfer picked up the win for the Raiders. David Dillon singled and doubled and Brady Trischler had two hits and two RBIs for Shady Side Academy (2-6).

Rochester 16, Summit Academy 0 Rochester (3-2, 2-2) swept a Section 2-A doubleheader with Summit Academy (0-5, 0-4). In the first game, Andrew Miller threw a three-inning no-hitter and struck out four and Devin Woodley drove in four runs for the Rams. In the second game, Justin Schurr threw a three-inning no-hitter and struck out seven and Cam Poplin drove in two runs for Rochester.

Shenango 10, Wilmington 1 – Joey Campoli hit two doubles, Sam Patton tripled and Rick Zeigler drove in three runs to lead Shenango (5-1) to a nonsection win over Wilmington.

Steel Valley 15, Sto-Rox 0 – Jordan Smith went 3 for 3 with a double and two RBIs and Landon Hurd threw three one-hit innings with seven strikeouts to help Steel Valley (2-4) past Sto-Rox (0-4) in a nonsection game. Logan Thomas singled, tripled and drove in two runs and Adam Keesecker had two hits and two RBIs for the Ironmen. JaMarcus Pierce had a base hit for the Vikings.

Trinity 12, Ringgold 2 – Derek Falvo, Matthew Robaugh and Owen Samogala each doubled and drove in two runs to lead Trinity (3-3) to a nonsection win. Skyler Mucci doubled for Ringgold (2-6).

West Mifflin 7, Thomas Jefferson 5 – Jayvon Thompson went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs and Chase Maggio and Ryan Buchleitner each had two hits to lead West Mifflin (6-3) to a nonsection win. Carter Kirsch and Joshua Chalovich each doubled and drove in a run for Thomas Jefferson (4-4).

Boys lacrosse

Indiana 12, Knoch 1 – Garrett Goodrich and Parker Bowersox each scored four goals and Max Campisano added three to lead Indiana to a Section 2-2A win.

Girls lacrosse

North Hills 12, Hempfield 2 – Maddie Korbel had five goals and an assist, Addy Moriconi collected three goals and an assist and Maddie Dembrowski and Georgia Krogmann each had two goals to lead North Hills to a nonsection victory. Audrey Wagner and Abby Wynert scored for Hempfield.

Boys volleyball

Norwin 3, Plum 0 – Nick Puskaric had nine kills, Dane Thompson added eight kills and Charlie Tygielski dished out 24 assists to lead Norwin to a nonsection victory.
