Harry Kane to Man United transfer truth emerges as £54m release clause stance explained
Manchester United have been heavily linked with Harry Kane in the past and the Reds' interest may pique at reports of a release clause at Bayern Munich.
Manchester United have been handed an update on Harry Kane's future at Bayern Munich.
Reports earlier this year in German publication Bild claimed that Kane's current Bayern contract includes a release clause, which could have allowed him to leave for £67million in January. The report suggested that this clause will drop to £54m this summer which may pique the Reds' interest as they grapple with their goalscoring issues under Ruben Amorim.
United are in desperate need of a new striker this summer having netted just 37 times after 30 games in the league this season. Current strikers Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have scored just 14 times for the Reds between them across all competitions.
The Manchester Evening News understand that United bought Hojlund after they decided against pursuing Kane two summer's ago. The addition of Kane would have improved United's attack tenfold. The former Tottenham Hotspur striker has scored an astonishing 33 goals across all competitions so far this season for Bayern.
But the England captain is going nowhere this summer, according to Bild's Christian Falk, who reported the original story on Kane's release clause.
"The exit clause I revealed has created a lot of speculation," he said in his latest post on The Daily Briefing.
"There were suddenly rumours about Manchester United, Arsenal or even a return to Tottenham. The fact is: FC Bayern are very happy with Harry Kane and Harry himself is also happy with FC Bayern.
"In response to the possibility of a transfer in the summer, I received feedback that he and his family feel very much at home in Munich. From a footballing perspective and also from a family perspective. Kane has realised at FC Bayern that he can win everything at this top club, which plays for every title every year (regardless of whether it’s the Champions League or Ballon d’Or).
"Even if he wins the title this season, the FC Bayern gene will continue to drive him on - once you’ve won a title, you get hungry for more."
