ANGOLA — A man wanted on four felony counts for alleged sexual offenses has been returned to Steuben County to face the charges.
Tyron Curtis Jackson, 48, was booked into the Steuben County Jail shortly after 8 p.m. Thursday. He was wanted on two counts of Level 3 felony rape and two counts of Level 4 felony sexual misconduct with a minor that allegedly occurred in August 2024.
Working with multiple other law enforcement agencies, the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office was able to track down Jackson, now listed as homeless but originally from Pleasant Lake, in Liberty County, Florida, and arrested him on March 20.
Jackson, whose first name is spelled Tyrone and Tyron in court documents, was located and taken into custody without incident by the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of the U.S. Marshal Service.
Jackson had been a fugitive for nearly seven months after arrest warrants were issued by the Steuben County Courts in connection with three separate cases.
In the one case, Jackson allegedly at least twice forced himself sexually on a 15-year-old girl in a tent in August at a rural Ashley residence, said documents filed in Steuben Superior Court.
Police were called to the residence by the mother of the girl. After the investigation was initiated by Sheriff’s Office’s Detective Jordon Trippe, police tried to locate Jackson.
Officers went to Jackson’s home in rural Pleasant Lake but he was nowhere to be found, court records said.
Eventually, Trippe’s report in court said, it was determined that Jackson had left the area and was believed to be in the Tallahassee, Florida, area. The Sheriff’s Office then initiated a search in the Sunshine State for Jackson.
Jackson was also wanted on a case of Class A misdemeanor invasion of privacy and another count of Class A misdemeanor domestic battery.
All three incidents were investigated by the Sheriff’s Office, and had allegedly occurred in August 2024 in Steuben County’s rural Steuben Township.
The arrest is the culmination of a several month’s long joint fugitive investigation by Steuben County Sheriff’s detectives and the U.S. Marshal Service.
In court records, no attorney is listed as counsel for Jackson. He was supposed to have an initial hearing at 1 p.m. Friday before of Magistrate James Burns.
For the Level 3 felonies, Jackson is facing between 3-16 years on each count. For the Level 4 felonies, he faces 2-12 years on each count.
