Newcastle United have issued an injury update on Alexander Isak ahead of Monday's clash at the King Power Stadium.

Isak was taken off as a precaution in the 2-1 win over Brentford with a groin problem. Howe explained that Isak felt the injury which forced him off in the warm-up against the Bees and was not carrying the knock over from recent weeks.

Isak was fielded for 61 minutes in a 1-0 friendly defeat against Luxembourg and then more surprisingly 90 plus minutes in a 5-1 friendly win over Northern Ireland in Stockholm. Howe also stated that Anthony Gordon was not "100%" fit for the clash against the Foxes.

When asked about Isak and Kieran Trippier, who had cramp, Howe, speaking at his Press conference, said: "We'll wait and see today, I will see them [Kieran Trippier and Alexander Isak] for the first time today.

"We don’t think we have any big injuries from Wednesday night, but we have a few niggles. We are monitoring Anthony [Gordon], he is still recovering. He has done individual training not group training, we will have to wait and see."

Isak missed a recent game at Liverpool with a groin issue leaving concerns hovering above the striker. The Swedish star bagged his 20th Premier League goal of the season on Wednesday night, and is integral to Newcastle's hopes of qualifying for the Champions League again.

Speaking about how the Isak injury was sustained, Howe told Chronicle Live: "No, I don't think he's been carrying it. It was in the warm-up of the Brentford game. He just became aware of it and carried it through the game."

When asked about Isak's busy international programme last month and whether it had any bearing on the injury, Howe played down any such suggestion. The Newcastle boss added: "We don't have any control over that. The national team manager will have all rights.

"Sweden will want to look after him too and they will want to keep him fit as much as we do. Going into the game he had no problems and sometimes you just have to let the players play.

"He felt something and it wasn't enough to stop him. He wanted to play. He scored so we are pleased with that and now we have to make sure he is OK for Leicester."

Howe is also confident that Joelinton, who needed treatment against Brentford for a knee knock, will play against the Foxes. The big Brazilian midfielder lasted the full 90 minutes on Wednesday despite getting treatment.

Howe said: "He is another in the category of having a niggle but we hope he will be OK. Knowing Joey we will see him want to train today and he’ll say he’s fine."
