Taste of Belgium sues nonprofit organization over use of basement space
Taste of Belgium is filing a lawsuit against a Greater Cincinnati nonprofit organization that works to fight hunger.
Taste of Belgium is currently subletting a basement on East McMillan Street in Walnut Hills for its commissary.
The lawsuit alleges that La Soupe wants to negotiate the lease to charge Taste of Belgium more, while giving them less share.
The lawsuit claims that La Soupe threatened to change the locks on Taste of Belgium and throw out its property if it didn’t pay more than $7,200 in back rent.
However, at the time of the court date, the lawsuit alleges La Soupe had not cashed over $8,000 in checks from Taste of Belgium.
For now, a judge has ordered La Soupe not to lock Taste of Belgium out of its space in Walnut Hills.
A hearing on the lawsuit has been scheduled for April 18.
