In order to evaluate what has been done so far, one of the members of the Presidential Transitional Council (CPT), Leslie Voltaire led a working meeting in which aspects related to the gradual reopening of the airfield, which was closed last November, were discussed.
The security scheme was developed based on the recommendations of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
This plan provides for 24-hour police control of a perimeter of more than two kilometers around the airport.
In November, Haitian Prime Minister Alix Didier ordered the national security forces to regain control of the terminal and its surroundings, an area currently controlled by gangs.
Didier regretted that the acts committed by the criminal gangs led to the closure of the airfield, interrupting all local and international flights.
In that context, the FAA advised pilots that it is temporarily banning, for several weeks, U.S. civil aviation operations in Haitian territory and airspace below 10,000 feet.
