In the March weather report, the IPMA says that it was the fifth rainiest month since the year 2000 and that extreme precipitation was recorded at nine weather stations.

Due to Strom Martinho, one of those that crossed the continent last month, extreme winds were recorded at 36 meteorological stations, 10 of them absolute extremes.

The Cabo da Roca weather station recorded the highest value: 169.2 kilometres per hour.

Regarding rainfall, the IPMA says that a total of 177.5 millimetres above normal was recorded, which corresponds to 229.4% of the average value in the period 1991-2020.

Nine new extreme precipitation events were recorded and at the end of the month, there was no type of meteorological drought on the continent.

March was the ninth coldest month of this century, with an average air temperature of 11.81ºC (degrees Celsius).

The average maximum temperature, at 16.37ºC, was 1.19ºC lower than normal, although the average minimum temperature was slightly above normal.

Even so, on March 23, Penhas Douradas recorded a temperature of minus 5.3ºC, and a week later (on the 31st) in Dunas de Mira, 29.8ºC was recorded, according to the summary of the IPMA Monthly Bulletin.
