Chilean President Gabriel Boric Font praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a “key player in geopolitics” for his ability to engage with world leaders, including US President Donald Trump and Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

He is on a state visit to India. Boric spoke at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where he praised PM Modi for his engagement with world leaders.

“President Modi, you have the status to talk to every global leader—whether it’s Trump, Zelenskyy, the European Union, or Latin American leaders. No other leader has this reach today, making you a key figure in global geopolitics,” Boric said.

While speaking at the event about PM Modi, he referred to the Prime Minister’s meeting with Putin in Moscow last July and his meeting with Zelenskyy the following month during his historic visit to Ukraine.

Boric praised India’s democratic values, highlighting its commitment to global peace. He emphasised India’s successful democratic institutions, noting that as the world’s largest democracy, it upholds the separation of powers, freedom of expression, and efforts to combat poverty and inequality.

He also said Chile wants to strengthen its relationship with India.

“Chile is a country that is connected to the world. We do not depend on any one country, but we have relationships with China, the United States, the European Union, and nations across Latin America and the Asia-Pacific, including Japan, Indonesia, and Australia. Now, we want to deepen our relationship with India, and we have taken some important steps today," he said.
