Joel Oliveira, coach of Romariz's women's B soccer team, has been banned for six months and fined 2,400 euros ($2,600) for "gender-discriminatory behaviour".

The decision of the Disciplinary Council of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), which was taken on March 28, refers to the incident that occurred during the match between Pacos de Ferreira and Romariz B in the Women's National Promotion Cup that was played on February 3 and which Pacos won 2-0.

So this is not a penalty? You don't know what you're doing here... Learn to whistle, cow, you come here without knowing what you're doing, go home

In the 84th minute of the match, coach Joel Oliveira questioned referee Joana Rita Alves Oliveira, after having seen a red card.

"So this is not a penalty? You don't know what you're doing here... Learn how to whistle, cow, you come here without knowing what you're doing, go home," he said.

"It is an expression offensive to the dignity of the person because of their gender"

"The expressions imputed to the accused are highly reprehensible, with a high level of intentionality and culpability, especially considering that the accused is the coach of a women's soccer team and therefore has a special duty (...) with sporting ethics and the absence of physical and verbal violence," the Council said in a resolution.

The FPF understood that the coach used "an offensive expression against the dignity of the person because of their gender", which goes against the provisions of article 125 of the RDFPF, which stipulates that anyone who "offends the dignity of a sports agent or spectator because of their ancestry, gender or gender identity, disability, race, nationality, ethnicity, language, territory of origin, religion, political or ideological beliefs, education, economic situation, social condition or sexual orientation, is sanctioned with suspension from three months to three years and cumulatively with a fine of 10 to 20 UC".
