A man convicted of human trafficking a 17-year-old girl from Dubuque will hear his sentencing Tuesday afternoon in Linn County court.

Jarod Anderson was found guilty in February for his role in setting up sex acts in Cedar Rapids with the teen and strangers for money in July 2024. He worked alongside Tana Torres, who was also involved in the prostitution. She took a plea deal of lesser charges after testifying against him during trial.

This is the first conviction of human trafficking a minor in the state of Iowa after a law was passed in 2023 requiring up to a life sentence.

The Gazette reports Torres was sentenced to up to 8 years in prison for her involvement.

At least two other men, Lyle Chapman and Mark Schwake, have also been charged in connection to the case.
