Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic will host the World Law Congress from May 4 to 6, 2025, organized by the World Jurist Association. This prestigious event will bring together top jurists, judges, prosecutors, and legal professionals at a time of major global tensions, including conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine.

Among the distinguished participants are King Felipe VI of Spain and U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, who will receive the 2025 World Peace and Freedom Prize, often referred to as the “Nobel Prize of Law.” Sotomayor’s presence in Santo Domingo underscores the significance of the summit.

The event will open at the UASD’s Aula Magna, with President Luis Abinader in attendance. Over 300 legal experts will participate in nearly 50 panels at the Universidad del Caribe. This milestone event will reinforce the Dominican Republic’s global standing in law and justice.

SotoMayor is a US Supreme Court Justice. She has absolutely no business participating in any geo-political activities as her position requires a totally neutral position on political and social issues that may come before our courts. shame on her.

as I admit that this is factual, justice Sotomayor isn’t explicitly barred from attending international legal conferences or events like this. She’s not participating in political decision making or advocating for a particular side in any conflict. This isn’t the first time, nor will it be the last time, that a justice appears at high-profile global forums. Whether we agree with her views or not, attending this event doesn’t automatically violate the expectations of judicial neutrality, lets keep in mind the difference between involvement in political discourse and participation in global legal gatherings.

Excellent. But, I would rather that John Robert the leader of the US Supreme Court Justice was in attendance.
