Queen Letizia Cape Verde Royal Tour

PRAIA, Cape VerdeQueen Letizia of Spain arrived in the Republic of Cape Verde on March 25 for a solo royal tour aimed at exploring the work of Spanish Cooperation in the West African nation.

Touching down at Nelson Mandela International Airport on Santiago Island, the Queen was warmly welcomed by Cape Verde’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Filomeno de Carvalho Dias Monteiro, alongside numerous diplomats. Queen Letizia will spend four days in the country, engaging in activities designed to combat poverty through technical and humanitarian support.

Dressed in comfortable chinos from the Spanish brand Mango and brown walking boots, she complemented her outfit with a white shirt and a red gilet featuring the Spanish Cooperation insignia. This attire mirrored that of the organization’s representatives she encountered during her first engagements. The Queen’s inaugural visit kicked off with a tour of the Embassy of Spain, followed by engagements at women’s shelters in Santa Cruz with the First Lady of Cape Verde, Débora Katisa Carvalho.

The Casa Familia shelter provides essential services for female victims of gender-based violence, while the Casa Manuela offers housing for young mothers under 18. Queen Letizia and Carvalho also visited the Cutting and Sewing Cooperative in Santa Cruz, which focuses on empowering women through vocational training.

Later, the Queen traveled to Porto Mosquito, where Spanish Cooperation is implementing a comprehensive development and inequality reduction project benefiting 800 residents. ‘She was able to learn firsthand about the challenges facing the population and their efforts toward inclusive development,’ an Instagram post from the Spanish royal family noted, sharing photos of Queen Letizia interacting with community members and volunteers.

As she continues her diplomatic mission, Queen Letizia is also known for her stylish appearances. In a prior event earlier this month, she hosted a UNICEF meeting, showcasing a pinstripe suit designed by Hugo Boss paired with a royal blue blouse. During that meeting, she engaged with nine young people discussing pressing issues such as mental health and climate change.

With a busy itinerary planned for the duration of her Cape Verde visit, Queen Letizia is expected to participate in further engagements that emphasize social responsibility and community support.

The Spanish royal family announced her ongoing schedule through social media, detailing her involvement with projects aimed at promoting women’s employment in local industries. Most notably, the second day’s agenda included a visit to the Regina Silva Secondary School, where workshops on gender-based violence awareness were conducted.

“Her Royal Highness will conclude the Cape Verde tour on March 27,” confirmed a statement, sealing the Queen’s dedication to understanding and addressing social issues in the region.
