CINCINNATI (WKRC) - January marks Human Trafficking Awareness Month, and a new partnership in Ohio is taking aim at the issue.
Attorney General Dave Yost announced that his office's Anti-Human Trafficking Initiative is collaborating with Ohio-based Travel Centers of America and the nonprofit organization Truckers Against Trafficking. Yost emphasized the pervasive nature of human trafficking, noting that truckers and frequent travelers on Ohio's highways and interstates play a crucial role in combating the problem.
"Truckers go everywhere. Here's the other thing—traffickers go everywhere. They stop everywhere from fast food restaurants to truck stops. The opportunities for our friends who are in logistics, who are out on the roads, to be able to see something and say something is a massive force multiplier for us in this fight," Yost said.
To support anti-human trafficking efforts, a new hotline has been established for reporting suspicious activity on the roads. The number to call is 844-END-OHHT.
