WINCHESTER, Ind. — A Winchester man was arrested for driving while intoxicated after a Tuesday afternoon crash injured a local woman.

According to Randolph County Sheriff Art Moystner, 29-year-old Christopher Higgins was traveling northbound on U.S. 27, approaching Randolph County Road 300-S, when his vehicle crossed the center line on the federal highway.

The sheriff said Higgins' 2015 Chrysler 200 struck a southbound 2017 Cadillac XT5 driven by Bette Robbins, 87, also of Winchester.

She was taken by Randolph County EMS to Reid Hospital in Richmond.

Higgins was taken to St. Vincent Randolph County Hospital for a blood draw.

He was then delivered to the Randolph County jail, where he was being held on a preliminary charge of driving while intoxicated resulting in injury.

The crash — which was reported about 12:25 p.m. — remains under investigation by the sheriff's department.

In addition to deputies and Randolph County EMS, firefighters from the Winchester, White River and Lynn departments responded to the scene.
