GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – The police have held the manager of a nightclub and six female foreigners in a case of suspected trafficking in persons.

The police report that the seven were taken into custody late yesterday following a joint search of the club by members of the police force and officers from the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA).

The GRA reportedly seized several cases of liquor, believed to have been smuggled, from the premises.

The Guyana Police Force and other law enforcement agencies are continuing in their fight against trafficking in persons and, as a result, their efforts have been recognised by the US State Department which publishes an annual report on trafficking in persons globally.
