A Brampton man and woman charged in an alleged human trafficking case in Greater Sudbury will have to wait until next Wednesday to learn if they will be released on bail.

Justice of the Peace Lori-Ann Toulouse reserved her decision late Wednesday afternoon at the Sudbury Courthouse following closing arguments by defence lawyer Tonya Kent, who is representing Sherlock Downey and Kelly Ann Downey, and assistant Crown attorney Lindsey Santerre.

Sherlock, 41, who is formerly of Nova Scotia, and Kelly Ann, 39, have been in custody since their arrest. Sherlock is facing 24 charges while Kelly Ann is facing nine.

Two sureties for Kelly-Anne and one for Sherlock traveled from Brampton on Tuesday morning to attend the special bail hearing, but did not arrive in the Nickel Capital until about 2 p.m., delaying the bail hearing for several hours.

Angela Stewart, Sherlock's aunt, took the witness stand Tuesday after Santerre outlined the Crown's case.

On Wednesday, Kelly Ann's potential sureties - sister Angela Downey and aunt Rose Crowley - both took the witness stand.

There is a ban on publication of evidence in place with the bail hearing.

A third person charged in the case, Emanuel Taitt, 33, also of the Greater Toronto area, is in custody after allegedly breaching his bail.

He is facing a total of 27 charges including assault with a weapon, hostage taking, abduction, sexual assault, exploitation of a person, advertising sexual services, threatening death/bodily harm, obtain sexual services and drug trafficking charges.

A trial date for Taitt will be set on Oct. 4.
